Evaluation: Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Through out the whole of the time of planning and leading up to the main filming i have used many many different types of technology to help aid me through the production.
We started off by talking about researching and looking at texts that would inspire us and so the Internet was the first type of technology i used to do my research on. The Internet was able to let me watch video's off you tube, search for images, look into my artist in greater detail and also do a lot of research into my targeted audience. I was also able to look at video's that linked to our style/genre and look at comments that were being left to see what type of reaction audience would have to say about that style that I wanted to do.  The main source of technology i used for researching the targeted audience was done through the Internet social networking site 'facebook.' With face book we created a page altogether as a group and then as individuals we were able to upload things to it on our own accord. I uploaded a mood board, my advert, my digi pak and also videos that linked to our research for our friends to comment on. With people being able to comment on our things we had to invite them to the group and so we made sure with all the audience we had it so that they were in our specific targeted range.
When we began recording some filming towards our research and experiments we used the Panasonic DV camera's and also the Nikon DSLR cameras. We started experimenting with what types of shots would be useful and exciting in our video. Also to create different dynamics to the shots we used the 'adobe' programs.
Firstly i used 'Adobe Photshop' to create my mood board with, here i cropped photos, rotated them and made an exciting mood board using this type of technology.
Then we used 'Adobe Premier Pro' to help create our animatic and our choreography clips.
I really feel that 'technology' has played a massive part in my work. As the technological determinism theory suggests that society's technology drives the development and i believe it does as the technology we have today is different to what we had 10 years ago and you can really tell by the way music videos have developed in style.

It has controlled my work in some ways in which I was not able too. For example we sped up parts on 'premier pro' which has made some clips in our video to look more exciting and fast paced.
If we didn't have this sort of technology we would be able to make the clips look effective and control them the way we wanted them too. We used the 'cross dissolve on clips near the end and also on the text at the start this was to dissolve the video out at the end so that the audience knew it was coming to an end.

Another 'if'' is that if we didn't have the social networking sites such as 'face book' we wouldn't be able to connect to friends in an easy way. We wouldn't be able to upload images and they could leave feedback! We would of had to do it by word processor on the computer and hand leaflets out and receive feedback by a complicated way which involves a lot of time! Whereas with Face book it is quick and easy and you receive written feedback that you can comment back too.

If websites such as 'you tube' didn't exist we wouldn't be able to broadcast our video. 'You-tube creates the video to be seen worldwide not just locally between friends.
We would of had to show our finished product to media producers to be able to get the video 'out there' and known. This way would of cost us a lot of money and time. So with you-tube it is able to increase our audience immensely and it also has the opportunity where people can rate it and comment on it.
Ours so far has received 624 views, 8 likes and 0 Dislikes.

Below here are some screen shots of the main internet sites i have used through out my course work in which have helped my do my research and planning.
Above is one of the main internet sites i used to do many researches and also to help analysis my targeted audience.
It let me watch many videos from all kinds of genre's to firstly decide what style i liked the best, then it let me look at specific genre's and also the comments that were left by the viewers to see what negative and positive comments were left on that text.
I have used the media 2.0 technology's to help progress and push my work in many different ways.
I also used 'You-tube' to upload our own videos so that we could link them to face book and get feedback through another site. This was so that my targeted audience can view the text and instantly comment on them once they had watched it.
Above is a screen shot of the face book page that we created to upload our work onto.
As a group of three we worked together to upload our individual inputs and have discussions about the feedback that we received.Although we found this way successful in which uploading was considered but we found that most of the people would ignore the posts that were put on there and so all in all we found that this method didn't turn out very well. We found this surprising but with our targeted audience we understood that they might need a bit of persistence to get them to write what they thought.
Above is a screen shot of the most important website used through out this project!
With out this i wouldn't be able to keep track of my work, know when  deadlines were due, keep on top of times and dates and also be able to do my work to the highest of standards. Blogger.com has been so useful to me it has influenced my creativity and also helped me keep my work looking neat and together. It has been useful in a way that i have been able to understand it as site is easy to run and the layout lets your work become individual to how you want it to be. I really like this site and i have no faults to say about it as it has helped me complete the course work and keep on track with it all.
Relating back to the 'Theory: Media 2.0 and audience'  It stated that uploading the video to a social networking site would get more views and I also said earlier on that I think this is true. Uploading our video to face-book is definitely where all the views and hits came from.

Evaluation: Question 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Video Feedback
We wanted to get both positive and negative feedback so that we can work from our negatives and turn them into positives. Although there arne't any comments on our 'YouTube' upload; there are 541 views which shows us that many people are watching our video.
We made the face book page as a group so that we could get direct feedback from our targeted audience with our print work and the completed music video. It was quite hard to get a lot of feedback from the social networking site as people don't express their feelings towards the product so we thought of some useful questions that would get more of a deeper answer from our audience. We uploaded it to the social networking site of www.facebook.com via the you-tube channel. This it how we gained our 541 views; although the feedback we got wasn't very useful and we didn't get much thoughtful responses.
However our questions we did gained responses in person that were useful.
I chose Emma Law who fits the targeted audience extremely well to ask her some questions about the video and then also about my print work.

CD/Magazine Advert feedback

Comments on my overall Feedback

After uploading my work to the social networking site where my close friends were able to give me feedback, youtube and also getting feedback from face-to-face where i was able to pick up on the positives and negatives to my work..............

  • Could address what genre it was from by watching it.
  • The digi-pak was seen as 'professional' and it could be seen on the shelves in the shops.
  • The digi-pak and advert cover was seen as eye catching and the colours really grab your attention.

I feel that the audience are looking at the text in a positive light, they are feeling up to tempo and enjoying the entertainment being shown on the screen. They feel that the print work matches the video and they can also tell what genre it is in. One of the negative comments we received about the print work was that the outfits she was wearing didn't match; as in one was commercial and the other was glamorous. I knew why they thought it was quite a contrast but then I did that for a reason, it was to show her different styles!
The hypodermic needle model theory is how the audience first react to our text. It has come across that the text has been put across so that the audience really feel involved. One of the worries is that the audience can be influenced by watching the behaviour upon the video and then will act out it themselves. Having parents watching the text could give them a wrong impression to what they are relating it too and so it helps explain the genre and why different society's shouldn't be exposed to watching texts that aren't in their comfort zone.

Evaluation: Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The audience thought that it all went together really well, they thought that the composition of it all fitted together nicely with the style of the video and the print work.
I feel that it matches well with the house style and the colours are matched but the only fall back i have on it is that all three girls aren't on the cover and advert and so the audience wouldn't realise its a 'girl band' by the advert and digipak.

Refering back to the Print research i was really inspired my Kesha's album cover. This was because the close up of her face i thought really caught the viewers attention and so wanted this to be the main inspiration to my digipak. I had the idea of her hair being one of the main aspects to her so that audience would reconigse her. As like Kesha, she has big wavy blonde hair and so i thought hair plays quite a big role in advertising and getting the package known and so i took shots that had her bright red , curly hair in view so that when watching the video it relates back to the print work.
I though about font and colours in an early stage, red and black is my main colour sceme with glitter; this was becuase i felt the red and black was rebal kind of colours and so portrayed more of the wild side to her and then the glitter i felt lifted the style up to show the more glamorous side to her.  This matches the video as in it we see the side of her when she gets drunk and is sick in the toilet and then the dancing/glamourous side to her with the shots in the studio.
With the font i felt that i needed to experiment with different fonts becuase i wanted font that people would remember when they would see the name of 'The Ditzys'

I have made our band coherent  by trying to make it all look the same and recognisable towards the audience.
The font is in 'Lucida Calligraphy' which is a modern 'Sans Serif' type of font. This is mainly used for the Title of 'The Ditzys' because I really liked the way the capital 'T' and 'D' Looks sophisticated and classy.
Also the colour code i used for all of the font was 'mistyrose(SVG) cmyk(0%, 11%, 12%, 0%)' and also 'white(Safe 16 SVG Hex3) cmyk(0%, 0%, 0%, 0%)' this was because against the white background it stands out the most and I felt that the baby pink gave the package more of a style to it as the white could come across as quite boring. I used white on the 'OUT NOW' text as this was in a large sized font and wanted it to stand out!
The lighting I used for the shoot to receive the shots I wanted for the print work was with the studio lightings, with the use of the 'spot lights' and the black back drop which created that professional feel to it. I wanted the same coloured back drop 'gray3 cmyk(0%, 0%, 0%, 97%)' so that it would have the same features to it so that the audience would be able to recognise it. Also with the lighting it really reflected Molly's hair and so I wanted that to be a main feature to so that the red and black would match and they would go well together. The colour of Molly's hair is a kind of deep red 'firebrick4 cmyk(0%, 81%, 81%, 45%' but with the technology of photo shop i was able to brighten or darken it depending on what colour the lights had made it.
Using the colour swatch on Molly's hair I used the colour from her hair and used it as the background for one of the digi-pak panels.
I got her to wear a sparkly dress for some of the shots so that the audience could see her as being glamorous and it would show her as being the stereotypical pop star. I then got her to wear more of a casual outfit so it would represent her quirky style and this would represent also the stereotypical pop star who can be versitile from the glamorous side.

My targetted audience saw my digi-pak and advert as i uploaded it to the facebook age so that i could recieve feedback and James a 20 year old Student said this;
Good use of colour, the red is very striking! Designs are really good. But Molly looks glamourous in some shots, and then hip hop/edgy in others . . . it's sort of a contradiction - so theres not a clear representation of what the band/act is trying to convey to there target audience . . If I didn't know the music, I wouldn't know what kind of genre it was from looking at the adverts/CD covers.
He mentioned about the red being very striking and that the designs are really good. So this gave me the impression that he really liked the layout and the designs. He thought that the two different styles were contradicting themselves as though he wasn't clear about what the style was that was being represented. He felt that the two matched and they were from the same artist but he was just unsure about the two different styles and the representation.
I feel that this is a satisfied comment and that the two different representations are done for a purpose, after watching the video he understood why I wanted there to be a versatile approach to the products.

There is defiantly an importance to the band image within the marketing as this is what helps achieve sales and to be well known in the industry. The brand is about discovering who the artist is and what they want to achieve in the market. A business with a leading brand will get the most viewers and be known through their reputation and in the competitive markets. A successful brand is one that will stand out from the crowd with its values, house style and personality which are portrayed through the design of their products.
To keep the brand image if I were to make my products go on further I would make a web page with the house style which would develop in promotion and marketing. Using the same font and colours and I would also take more images in the same style with all of the three girls to get it featured as a girl band more of a solo artist.
